Add Warmth to Your Bath with Wooden Tubs
Posted on September 3, 2010 · Leave a CommentFor centuries, folks throughout Japan and Europe have been enjoying the soothing, cozy comforts that come from wooden bathtubs. Not only do they warm up nicely, but depending on the type of wood used — ceder is a popular choice — their aromatic properties can be lovely. Plus, wooden bath fixtures in general add a nice touch of rustic ambiance. 3Rings recently explored the rise of these luxurious tubs in the United States. Take a look below at a few of Design One Interiors‘ favorites from the list.
The Viaggi freestanding soaker by Maax is a “seamless, egg-shaped bath turns the conventional bathtub into an exceptional work of art… this stunning piece is designed to take center stage in your bathroom, like a sculpture in a museum.” The piece is, by any estimation, tantamount to a fabulous fresco in marble or a beautiful bust in bronze, dominating the bathroom and commanding attention not only by virtue of its stand-alone orientation, but also owing to its textural allure and appealing aesthetic. The original Viaggi was cast in 70” x 36” x 25” of classic white acrylic, with a jointless juncture between tub and skirt as well as a hidden drain—all qualities that seem to downplay its functionality and highlight its draw as an art object.
Made of Canadian cedar (though the manufacturer does accept custom orders with different wood options), the E-Legno bathtub smells as good as it looks: cedar’s aromatic scent is sure to lull you into a transcendental state. At 200 l x 110 w x 58 h cm, the tub offers a perfect fit while still providing lots of room for water—it holds 350 liters. Lean back against the soft wood; let your skin feel the natural texture.

Color Coding to a Tee
Posted on August 31, 2010 · Leave a CommentIt’s amazing what some subtle color can do to completely transform the energy of a room. Through different methods like lacing in variations of a certain color and maybe weaving in graphs of texture here and there, the simplest spaces can really pop. A recent post from Apartment Therapy explores a number of tricks and tactics to help keep continuity of a color theme in a room. Take a peek below to learn more.
There’s a reason that those clever stylists employ the color coding trick so often: it grabs attention without shocking the senses in the way that a riot of color might. Spread around the room, objects of similar colors can add a subtle continuity, but can also get lost in the mix. Together in a grouping, it’s all about a pleasing impact. If you’re like most people, you are probably drawn to a certain color. And if you are, you may have the start of a fabulous collection without even realizing it. Together, the variety of forms and subtle color variations make a pleasing display that was lost when some were tucked away in the bedroom, others in the kitchen, and still more scattered around other rooms.
